Off to Mount Hermon

I leave early tomorrow for the Mount Hermon Christian Writer’s Conference. I’m taking a vacation day and will arrive a day early to relax at one of my favorite places on planet Earth.

Read more here.

One of the workshops I’ll be teaching will be a look at the popularity of the Amish fiction genre. At the end of the workshop I will be revealing my guess as to the next genre to enjoy a similar wave of popularity. Perhaps not the tidal wave of Amish fiction, but a wave nonetheless. Take a guess if you want to. If you’re right, I’ll find a nice prize for you. I’ll be back late Tuesday night and will try to post Wednesday or Thursday.

Since we’re approaching the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, I’d guess there will be a surge in interest in Civil War era historical fiction and/or romance, but it probably will not last past 2015.

  2. Kathy Nickerson says:

Or something with an international/cross-cultural flair? I think our interest in other cultures is one draw of the Amish phenomenon in publishing. Maybe we will start seeing other cultures explored.

I’m disappointed I won’t be going to Mount Hermon this year, but God’s timing is always right. Instead of heading to Mount Hermon today, we are leaving for a cross country trip for a family funeral. But I will be back at Mount Hermon next year, God willing. Like you, Nick, it’s one of my favorite places on Earth.

I don’t have a guess for the next genre explosion, but I like the idea of Civil War era.

Anxious to get back and find out what your prediction is.

Hi, Nick. I hope you had a wonderful time at Mount Hermon. I haven’t made it there for the past two years, but perhaps it will work out next year.

I’m predicting that the next trend is angels. We’ve been saturated with the dark side, and I believe people–youth and adults alike–are hungry for some light and hope.

I think it is about time that supernatural, paranormal, events begin to happen again, it seems like about every 10 years or so things change. With the political scene the way it is at the moment, I am hoping that end times, supernatural stuff is going to get popular in a greater way.

With the vampire stuff being popular, we need some Christian angels and helpful people who listen to the Lord in the next generation of kids.

Just my take and hope. I suppose I feel that genre because that is what I like to write.

    Good luck to all. 🙂
